The search engine wars are heating up. In an effort to loosen Google’s stranglehold on the search engine industry, Microsoft created “Bing,” which Microsoft describes as a “decision engine” and which has a very different look and feel than Google. To add to the onslaught, Microsoft has partnered with Yahoo in an effort to gang up on Google.
Google didn’t get to where they are in the industry by taking things lying down, however, and they are fighting back. Google’s latest weapon in the search engine battles is “Google Caffeine,” a brand new search engine which is currently in the testing phase.
Google Strikes Back
While Google Caffeine doesn’t currently look any different than your standard Google page (Google has made it clear that the changes are not User-Interface related), Google feels that the caffeine engine is sharper and faster, almost as if Google search had been injected with, well, caffeine.
Caffeine vs. Bing
Will Google Caffeine make a difference? Despite Bing’s heavy advertising campaign and other strategic moves designed to eat into Google’s market share, Microsoft hasn’t gained much ground, so the new engine might not even be necessary. That being said, if it works, it can only be good for Internet surfers all around.
See For Yourself
If you want to try Caffeine for yourself and see what all the fuss is about, feel free to play in the Google Caffeine sandbox . I think you will find that the results come a bit faster, although they come pretty fast already. If you have thoughts about Google Caffeine, you can post them here or you can provide feedback (include the word Caffeine) at the bottom of the Google Caffeine search page.
