Keion Moradi

Educational Background:

I attended a handful of schools in Washington before moving to California and found out the hard way that transferring schools takes much longer to earn a degree. That was my first lesson in "Why you should always take your mother's advice." Six institutes for higher education later, I finished an undergraduate degree in English at California State University, Los Angeles. Along the way, I acquired a substantial amount of credit in journalism and creative writing.

After a little time off, I eventually entered the graduate program for English at California State University, Northridge. Only a few courses left and I'll have a Master of Arts in English Literature. My focus has been on literature during the period of high modernism, more specifically American lit between the World Wars. In addition to core studies, I also completed CSUN's professional writing program.

Experience:

Over the past few years, I've gained experience in various aspects of professional writing: speech writing, print advertisements, brochures, news writing and news releases to name a few. I spent some time working for the media relations director at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and then moved over to CSUN as the assistant to the director of news and information.

In 2007, I found CKMG and started out as a freelance copywriter. Within a few months, they hired me in house as an editor. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a dynamic team.

Interests/Likes:

Writing and the perpetual search for knowledge. I've been known to spend hours researching anything from dialectical materialism to tips on healthy eating.

Photography, sci fi, horror flicks -- basically any movie with a title that contains the word "dead" in it, Marxism, activism, counter culture, conspiracy theory and alternative philosophy.

I also enjoy trying out new recipes on my boyfriend. The latest was a lemon chicken dish -- little too much rind that time.

Dislikes:

It's a close tie between a person blowing his or her nose at the diner table and our culture's obsession with Hollywood celebrities. The first one is just plain gross -- the second doesn't make any sense.

Best Travel Story:

Tamarindo in Costa Rica is so far, the best place I've ever been to. The beach was beautiful and it was 80 degrees the entire time. No hustle and bustle, but instead a peaceful sense of otherworldliness. And there is wildlife everywhere. In fact, the hotel where we stayed had a family of raccoons camping near the outdoor dining patio. As people were having dinner, they would walk around the tables, boldly trying to scrounge for food.

FAVORITES

Foods:

Anything my father makes. He should have opened a restaurant. The man is genius!

My favorite cuisines are Persian, Indian and Japanese.

I don't have television, but I can buy, rent or download. My home collection consists of Battlestar Galactica, Family Guy and Arrested Development. I will also watch most anything on the History Channel.
