Corporate Skate Decks aren’t just for Monkey Business

Posted by: Stephen Hawke | 2007-06-04 16:00:00 | Posted in: Team CKMG

Steven and his brother Mike Patton founded Monkey Business in 96, the same year the Extreme Games became the X Games… They began by customizing hardware for skate decks and it’s since evolved into a variety of sick Skate and Surf related products including a series of collectible decks designed by some of the most talented artists in the X World.

When SGP and I were thinking of how we could decorate the front entrance to our Santa Monica office we went back and forth… nothing was inspiring us so it remained a blank canvas for months.

I’ve had a couple of Mike’s boards in my office since we moved into this new location and one day Steven grabs a hold of one and walks off.  He had a look on his face like he’d come up with something ingenious so I had to follow.  We get out front and he starts placing the board on the wall asking me how many I thought would fit.  He was like, “Bro… we can throw our logo on some boards, have em lined up on the wall, and we can give them away as promotional gifts… it’d be money.  We can make extras and package em up Louis Vuitton style for clients and present them in custom cases lined with velvet - the whole deal man… How sick would that be“?

My response: Of Course… Let’s do it.

We had Amanda, our lovely & talented designer, send Mike a jpeg of our logo along with the pantone colors from our corporate site and trade show booth to give him something to play with.  Fast forward 60 days and we have some awesome corporate promotional gifts for clients and a great looking wall.

Mike did a tremendous job with these boards.  Everyone that’s been to the office or seen them at my place wants one…  Monkey Business definitely hit a home run with these.  Speaking of home runs, congrats to my fellow Bay Area representative Barry Bonds on number 756.  I don’t care what anyone says, hitting home runs is about hitting form and hand-eye coordination.  Neither of which are built while doing leg presses, bench press or power cleans.
